My other great passion is listening, learning about, and garnering a greater appreciation for the art of music. Most of what is here is secular and based on my personal history and preferences.
I bought my first album in 1975 when I was ten years old. It was Elton John’s Greatest Hits. Since then, I’ve amassed a collection of over 5,000 albums in pop, rock, jazz, electronica, country, reggae and all sorts of stuff in between.
I learned a long time ago to listen without prejudice. So I say, listen to what you like. Don’t let someone else’s labels get in the way of your enjoyment.
Below are a bunch of playlists I’ve created on Spotify …
Moving Forward: a collection of songs that echoed my thoughts and decisions as I went through the discernment process of leaving my HR career after 30 years and pursuing an MDiv at Princeton Theological Seminary.
A collection of my favorite albums.
A comprehensive collection of New Wave and Punk Music, and the albums that influenced the genres. Playlist is in chronological order of release years. Mix appropriately.
A collection of (non-jazz) instrumentals from the 1940’s to the 1970’s
A collection of reggae and dub songs from the 1960’s to the 1990’s
Songs about working, the workplace, or specific professions, and the ups and downs of it all. In alphabetical order by original artist or an artist most associated with the song (at least to me). Some songs are repeated if another artist recorded a notable version (before or after). Mix accordingly.
